Despite Safety Measures, Another Fall Accident at Jeseksan Skywalk in Nam-gu, Gwangju
Another fall accident has occurred at the Jeseksan Skywalk in Nam-gu, Gwangju, where authorities have been working to implement safety measures following a series of fatal falls.
According to the Gwangju Fire Department on June 21, a report was received at around 4:55 p.m. the previous day regarding a fall accident at the Jeseksan Skywalk in Jinwol-dong, Nam-gu, Gwangju.
The 119 rescue and emergency team found a man in his 40s lying unconscious inside a rockfall prevention wire net beneath the skywalk. He was rescued and transported to a hospital.
The man is reported to have regained consciousness on the morning of June 21, and authorities are currently investigating the circumstances of the accident.
Fall accidents have occurred frequently at the Jeseksan Skywalk, a walking trail connecting mountain ridges in Nam-gu, Gwangju, leading the local community to continuously call for improved safety measures.
There have been two fatal fall accidents at the site this year alone. Since 2017, a total of seven people have died after falling from the skywalk.
In response to the repeated fall accidents, Nam-gu District in Gwangju has begun reinforcing the facility, including efforts to install safety nets on the skywalk.
