Yongin City Designates Ilsan-ri in Mohyeon-eup and Mabuk-dong as "Alley-type Commercial Districts"

On June 20, the city of Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, announced that it has designated two concentrated retail areas?Ilsan-ri in Mohyeon-eup, Cheoin-gu, and Mabuk-dong in Giheung-gu?as "Mohyeon Cheonggyeongchae Alley-type Commercial District" and "Mabuk Alley-type Commercial District," respectively.

The "Mohyeon Cheonggyeongchae Alley-type Commercial District," which has become the ninth alley-type commercial district in the Yongin area, is home to 41 clustered stores in the Ilsan-ri area of Mohyeon-eup. The tenth alley-type commercial district, "Mabuk Alley-type Commercial District," consists of 88 clustered stores.

An alley-type commercial district is defined as an area where, in commercial zones, at least 25 stores operated by small business owners are clustered within 2,000 square meters, or in non-commercial zones, at least 20 stores are clustered within 2,000 square meters. Previously, the city amended its "Ordinance on the Promotion of Traditional Markets and Commercial Districts" last year, easing the designation criteria from "at least 30 stores within a land area of 2,000 square meters" to the current standards.

Following the easing of these criteria, the city has designated a total of 10 alley-type commercial districts to date, starting with "Bojung-dong Cafe Street" in October last year. Once designated as an alley-type commercial district, stores become eligible to register as Onnuri Gift Certificate affiliates and can receive various benefits, including support for commercial district environment improvement and revitalization projects.

The city plans to designate four more alley-type commercial districts by the end of this year. To this end, the city will offer consulting services to merchants interested in designation.
