Pope Leo XIV Expresses Concern Over Global Situation... Calls to Gather Wisdom for Solutions to War
Leo XIV Gives Interview on the 19th to Local Broadcaster
"Not Just a Problem for the Middle East"
"Avoid the Use of Force and Seek Diplomatic Solutions"
As wars continue to break out around the world, including between Israel and Iran, and Ukraine and Russia, Pope Leo XIV made an appeal in his first media interview, calling on everyone to "gather our wisdom to find a solution to war."
On June 19 (local time), in an interview with TG1, a channel of the Italian public broadcaster Rai, Pope Leo XIV stated, "The current global situation is truly concerning," and added, "I am continuously monitoring what is happening in various regions of the world, day and night."
He said, "These days, there is a lot of discussion about the Middle East issue in particular, but it is not a problem limited to that region alone." He continued, "Once again, I would like to make an appeal for peace. Whatever the cost, the use of force must be avoided, and I hope that solutions can be found through diplomatic means and dialogue. Let us all gather our wisdom together to find a solution."
He also emphasized, "Even now, countless innocent people are losing their lives," and added, "We must always promote peace."
