Special Prosecutor Cho Eunseok Urges Court to Cancel Bail and Issue Additional Arrest Warrant for Kim Yonghyun
On June 19, Special Prosecutor Cho Eunseok, who is handling the rebellion case related to former President Yoon Sukyeol's 12·3 Martial Law, urged the court to issue an additional arrest warrant for former Defense Minister Kim Yonghyun.
Through a press release on the same day, Special Prosecutor Cho stated, "Today, we submitted a written request to the court urging the prompt consolidation of the case filed against former Defense Minister Kim Yonghyun, the cancellation of the bail decision, and the issuance of an additional arrest warrant."
The previous day, Special Prosecutor Cho indicted former Minister Kim on charges of obstruction of official duties by fraudulent means and instigation of destruction of evidence. The additional indictment was made to prevent former Minister Kim from being released when his initial detention period expires on June 26.
Previously, the Special Investigation Headquarters for Rebellion within the prosecution, which investigated this case, indicted former Minister Kim on December 27 last year on charges of performing important duties related to rebellion and abuse of authority. The six-month detention period for the first trial, as stipulated by the Criminal Procedure Act, will expire on June 26. Since re-arrest on the same charges is not possible, former Minister Kim will be released unless an additional arrest is made.
In response, the prosecution requested the court to grant discretionary bail (release with conditions such as a deposit), and the court accepted this request and granted bail on June 16.
