Driver Handling Minor Accident in Changwon Struck and Killed by SUV
At approximately 10:55 a.m. on June 19, a driver who was handling a minor car accident on a side street in Dogye-dong, Uichang-gu, Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province, was struck and killed by another vehicle.
According to the Changwon Seobu Police Station, a woman in her 50s, identified as A, had exited her vehicle to handle a previous collision with another car and was managing the scene.
At that moment, a woman in her 20s, identified as B, who was driving a sports utility vehicle (SUV), failed to see A and struck her with the vehicle.
As a result of the accident, A was pinned between the SUV and another parked SUV, sustaining severe injuries. She was transported to the hospital but ultimately died.
Additionally, two people, including a one-year-old child who was in the parked car, were injured and taken to the hospital.
At the time of the accident, B was neither under the influence of alcohol nor driving without a license. She reportedly claimed that the vehicle had suddenly accelerated.
The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident based on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and other evidence, and plan to charge B with causing death by dangerous driving under the Special Act on Traffic Accident Handling.
