'Move Up the Meeting'... President Lee Orders Luncheon with Ruling and Opposition Leaders on June 22
President Lee Jae Myung will hold a luncheon meeting with the leaders of both the ruling and opposition parties at the presidential residence on June 22.
Woo Sang Ho, Senior Presidential Secretary for Political Affairs, announced during a presidential office briefing on this day, "President Lee Jae Myung and the leaders of both parties will meet for a luncheon at 12 p.m. on June 22 at the presidential residence." The meeting will be attended by Kim Byung Ki, Floor Leader and Acting Party Leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, Kim Yong Tae, Emergency Committee Chairperson of the People Power Party, and Song Eon Seok, Floor Leader.
Woo stated, "The President plans to provide a detailed explanation regarding various matters related to the Group of Seven (G7) summit," adding, "He said he would like to have a candid conversation without proposing any additional agenda items."
President Lee proposed the meeting to the party leaders through Chief of Staff Kang Hoon Sik just before attending the Cabinet meeting held on this day. Woo explained, "We contacted representatives of each party today, and the meeting was finalized."
It is reported that President Lee expressed to his aides that it would be desirable to meet with the party leaders as soon as possible. An official from the presidential office said, "The aides thought that early July would be an appropriate time for the meeting and made such a suggestion. However, since the President believed it would be better for the ruling and opposition parties to engage in dialogue, he personally instructed that the meeting be moved up, so it will be held earlier than originally planned."
