Attempted Forced Sales to Businesses Using Fake Official Documents and Business Cards by Impersonating Public Officials... Daegu City Urges Immediate Reporting
On June 19, the Daegu city government urged local businesses and organizations to exercise caution, stating, "Recently, there have been fraud cases involving the forgery of official documents or impersonation of public officials in attempts to purchase goods."
The city explained that on June 16 and 17, an unidentified individual impersonated a Daegu city hall employee and attempted to induce local businesses to engage in transactions by forging official documents related to the purchase of goods.
These incidents were uncovered as fraud involving forged official documents during the process in which suspicious businesses verified the documents with city hall. In both cases, no financial losses occurred.
Previously, on June 2, there was a "no-show" scam in Daegu in which someone impersonated a city hall official, used a counterfeit business card, induced a construction contract, and then disappeared.
Daegu city believes these fraudulent methods are similar to recent nationwide scams impersonating public institutions. To prevent further incidents, the city has requested a police investigation.
An Junggon, Director of Administration for Daegu city, emphasized, "These incidents are serious crimes that can undermine trust in administrative agencies. If you receive a suspicious official document or business card, you must verify its authenticity through the 120 Dalgubeol Call Center or the administrative phone numbers listed on the city’s website, and immediately report it to 112."
