Ulleung Police Station Presents Letter of Appreciation to NH Nonghyup Employee for Preventing Voice Phishing in Advance
Ulleung Police Station in North Gyeongsang Province presented a letter of appreciation on the 18th to an employee (Manager Ha Aeja) at the Dodong branch of NH Nonghyup Bank, who prevented a voice phishing scam in advance and protected a citizen's valuable assets.
According to the police, on the 16th, Ms. A (female, 66), who had received a call from a voice phishing scammer, visited the Dodong branch of NH Nonghyup Bank and requested a transfer of 150 million won in cash. The employee, finding the attempt to transfer such a large sum suspicious, dissuaded her, persuaded her, and promptly reported the situation to Ulleung Police Station, thereby preventing the crime.
Choi Daekeun, Chief of Ulleung Police Station, stated, "Thanks to the proactive response of the bank employee, we were able to prevent voice phishing damage," and added, "This case serves as a model example of voice phishing prevention. The police will further strengthen ongoing cooperation with financial institutions to do our utmost to prevent such crimes."
Ulleung Police Station plans to continue prevention and public awareness activities in collaboration with financial institutions and the local community to eradicate voice phishing.
