"Price Frozen for Half a Century"... China's 190 KRW Train Ticket That's Almost Too Cheap
The Oldest Train with a Green Exterior
"Many Still Use It Despite No Air Conditioning"
The cheapest train ticket in China costs just 1 yuan (approximately 190 KRW), which is even less expensive than a subway fare.
On June 18, China.com reported, "The train ticket from Taishan Station to Yanjiazhuang Station is 1 yuan (0.5 yuan for children, about 95 KRW), making it the cheapest train ticket in China," adding, "The price has remained unchanged for about half a century."
The fare for Train 7054, which departs from Taishan Station and travels to its final destination at Zibo Station, taking a total of 4 hours and 20 minutes, is 11.5 yuan (about 2,200 KRW). Although the train stops at several intermediate stations, the fare increases by about 1 yuan for each additional station. For example, if you travel only one stop from Taishan, the fare is 1 yuan (about 190 KRW), and if you pass two stops, it becomes 2 yuan (about 380 KRW).
An official from Taishan Railway Station told China.com, "Train 7054 is the oldest train with a green exterior. There is no air conditioning inside the train, but it is still used by many people." In particular, this train was even recommended by CCTV as a "nationally famous slow train route."
