This briefing session was organized to share the progress so far and future plans regarding the construction of the Jisan IC exit ramp, which has been delayed due to safety concerns, with local residents.
In particular, the session provided local residents with detailed information on the current status analysis of Jisan IC, intersection plans, and land acquisition status, and helped build consensus among residents regarding future plans.
The Jisan IC exit ramp construction began in September 2018 to revitalize the Jisan Recreation Area and improve transportation convenience for visitors to Mudeungsan. However, there have been concerns about the risk of major safety accidents due to the left-side exit ramp design and the short distance from the tunnel. As a result, the 6.54-meter-wide, 670-meter-long road, which cost 7.7 billion won, has become a white elephant.
The Gwangju City government had planned to complete and open the Phase 1 section, the outbound ramp from Duam to Jisan, this year after going through administrative procedures, but now expects construction to begin in the first half of next year. The inbound ramp from Jisan to Duam, which is Phase 2, is targeted for opening in 2027.
Hong stated, "The Jisan IC exit ramp is an important issue that has emerged as a key local concern, and it is necessary to proceed meticulously from project approval to contractor selection. We must regularly hold briefing sessions and other opportunities for dialogue so that local residents can stay informed about the progress."
