Kim Keonhee Special Counsel Assistants: "We Will Conduct a Thorough Investigation Without Yielding to External Pressure"
Assistant Special Prosecutors Appointed:
Kim Hyeonggeun, Park Sangjin, Moon Hongju, and Oh Jeonghee
On June 18, the four special prosecutors appointed as assistant special prosecutors for the "Kim Keonhee Special Counsel" investigation, which will look into allegations related to Kim Keonhee, issued a press statement saying, "We will uphold our mission and the independence of our duties without being swayed by political considerations or external pressure."
The four appointed assistant special prosecutors are: attorney Moon Hongju (Judicial Research and Training Institute, 31st class), a former presiding judge; and attorneys Kim Hyeonggeun (29th class), Park Sangjin (29th class), and Oh Jeonghee (30th class), all former prosecutors. The assistant special prosecutors stated, "We feel a tremendous sense of responsibility in taking on this role," adding, "The investigation will be conducted based on objective facts and legal principles, and we will prioritize procedural legitimacy and evidence-based judgment above all else."
They further stated, "We will always keep in mind that the public is watching, and we will respond with a fair, transparent, and thorough investigation to uncover the substantive truth."
Previously, Special Counsel Min explained that, in recommending assistant special prosecutors, consideration was given to investigative capabilities that would allow for a swift conclusion as well as communication and teamwork skills.

The assistant special prosecutors will be responsible for investigations related to the case, maintaining indictments of prosecuted cases, and directing and supervising special investigators and public officials dispatched from relevant agencies. They will receive treatment equivalent to that of a chief prosecutor. The Kim Keonhee Special Counsel office is expected to be established near Gwanghwamun in Seoul. During the remaining preparation period, lists of 40 dispatched prosecutors, 80 dispatched public officials, and 80 special investigators will be finalized, with a full-scale investigation expected to begin in early next month.
