President Lee Meets EU Leaders at G7, Agrees to Strengthen Cooperation in Digital, Environment, and Security Fields
Exchanged Views on Regional Situations Including the Korean Peninsula and Ukraine
President Lee Jaemyung, who is visiting Kananaskis, Canada to attend the Group of Seven (G7) Summit, held a summit meeting on the 17th (local time) with Antonio Costa, President of the European Council, and Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission.
President Lee expressed his appreciation for the congratulations on their inaugurations and stated, "This year marks the meaningful 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Korea-EU strategic partnership, so let's further deepen our cooperation in various fields such as the economy and security." In response, the EU leaders emphasized that the EU also values its relationship with Korea, a key partner in the Indo-Pacific region, and suggested that they continue communication through various opportunities in the future.
The three leaders acknowledged that trade and investment between the two sides have expanded based on the Korea-EU FTA, and agreed to further strengthen cooperation in areas such as digital and the environment through the Digital Trade Agreement and the Korea-EU Green Partnership, thereby qualitatively and quantitatively expanding their relationship.
They also expressed expectations that joint research between the two sides will become more active starting this year through the 'Horizon Europe' program. At the same time, they agreed to continue cooperation in the security field based on the Korea-EU Security and Defense Partnership agreement document adopted last year. The three leaders also exchanged views on regional situations, including the Korean Peninsula and Ukraine.

The EU leaders proposed that President Lee visit Brussels soon and that the 11th Korea-EU Summit be held in Brussels. In response, President Lee suggested that they continue communication to arrange the next summit meeting.
