Uljin County Captivates Consumers with Premium Cherries
The 4th Uljin Cherry Tasting Event Held
A Platform for Win-Win Cooperation Between Consumers and Farmers
Uljin County, led by County Governor Son Byeongbok, successfully held the 4th Uljin Cherry Tasting Event and promotional activities at Uljin Bajige Market on June 16. The event was organized by the Uljin Cherry Research Association.
This tasting event was designed to introduce the appeal of cherries produced in Uljin to consumers, motivate local farmers to improve quality, increase farm income, and strengthen the competitiveness of the region's agriculture.
The event featured various sections, including cherry variety exhibitions, tastings, sales, and other activities. The exhibition space showcased a wide range of cherries such as Jwadeunggeum and Lapins, all produced by members of the Cherry Research Association. In particular, the event was very popular as visitors could taste and purchase fresh, high-quality cherries on site.
Uljin offers optimal conditions for cherry cultivation due to its oceanic climate and abundant sunlight, with about 30 farms cultivating cherries across 11 hectares.
To improve quality, Uljin County provides support for simple rain shelter facilities and supplies equipment for artificial pollination, such as pollen. In response to climate change, the county plans to renew cherry varieties to self-pollinating types such as Lapins, Skeena, and Black Gold. Additionally, the Uljin County distribution company is actively working to secure distribution networks to promote the cherry industry.
Governor Son Byeongbok stated, "I hope this tasting event will serve as an opportunity to widely promote the excellence of Uljin cherries, and we will gradually expand support for the production and distribution of high-quality cherries."
