This agreement comes as Bumhan Unisolution has successfully developed a direct cooling-type immersion cooling ESS system by applying S-OIL's immersion cooling oil, 'S-OIL e-Cooling Solution.' The company has also obtained the relevant KC certification and battery thermal runaway test certification (NFPC 607), and is preparing for product commercialization. The purpose of the agreement is to formalize future cooperation between the two companies in the immersion cooling-type ESS and EV battery pack markets.
Additionally, Bumhan Unisolution is expanding the application of immersion cooling technology by developing the first circulating immersion cooling EV battery pack in Korea, which is currently undergoing performance testing in Bumhan Motor's electric buses.
Through this MOU, the two companies plan to continue joint collaboration on immersion cooling technology in a variety of application areas, including ESS systems, EV battery packs, and electric propulsion vessels. They will also maintain close cooperation for mutual technical support and product commercialization.
Immersion cooling technology is attracting attention as a next-generation cooling method that can simultaneously achieve thermal control efficiency and fire safety, making it an optimized solution for high energy density systems.
An S-OIL representative said, "The cooperation with Bumhan Unisolution proves the scalability of immersion cooling technology. Going forward, we will further enhance our competitiveness in thermal management solutions not only for data centers, but also for ESS and EV batteries, by leveraging the technological capabilities of the 'S-OIL e-Cooling Solution.'"
A Bumhan Unisolution representative said, "The development of this immersion cooling-type ESS is an example of commercializing next-generation technology that ensures high safety and efficiency. We will continue to lead the market by utilizing our technological competitiveness."
