Asan City Establishes Basic Society Team...Plans Region-Specific Basic Society Policies
New Departments Established for Apartment Housing, AI, and Smart Agriculture
On June 16, the city of Asan in South Chungcheong Province announced that it will establish a Basic Society Team and begin full-scale operations starting next month.
The term "basic society" refers to a society that guarantees the dignity of its citizens by providing essential services such as income, housing, healthcare, transportation, and education without discrimination.
The newly established Basic Society Team will be responsible for planning region-specific basic society policies in response to urban expansion and population growth, as well as overseeing collaboration among related departments.
In addition, through this organizational restructuring, the city has also created new practical teams to strengthen functions that are closely connected to daily life and responsive to future challenges.
Reflecting the high proportion of residents living in apartment complexes, a Housing Support Team has been established. The existing Big Data Team has been expanded and reorganized into the AI Data Team to prepare for artificial intelligence-based administration.
The city also plans to sequentially restore a Smart Agriculture Team to support the transition to future-oriented agriculture and a dedicated department to promote the social economy.
Mayor Oh Sehyun stated, "This organizational restructuring is the first step toward guaranteeing universal basic living standards," adding, "We will strive to build an inclusive social foundation so that all citizens can enjoy at least the minimum level of essential services."
