Tottenham Appoints Thomas Frank, Former Brentford Manager, as New Head Coach
Son Heungmin's club, Tottenham Hotspur, has appointed Thomas Frank, who previously managed Brentford in the same league, as their new head coach.
On June 13 (Korean time), Tottenham announced that Frank would lead the team until 2028. Previously, on June 7, Tottenham dismissed Ange Postecoglou, who had delivered the club's first UEFA Europa League title in 41 years. The reason was that Tottenham finished 17th in the English Premier League (EPL) last season, narrowly avoiding relegation.
Frank, who is from Denmark, managed Brondby (Denmark) from 2013 to 2016, then served as Brentford's assistant coach before taking charge of Brentford in 2018.
He is regarded as the best manager in Brentford's history, having led the club for seven years.
Frank took the team, which finished 11th in the Championship (second division) in the 2018-2019 season, to 3rd place in the 2020-2021 season and secured promotion to the EPL through the playoffs, ending a 74-year absence from the top flight. In Brentford's first EPL season (2021-2022), he led the team to a 13th-place finish, ensuring survival, and then achieved 9th, 16th, and 10th place finishes over the next three seasons. As a result, he was recognized for his leadership by keeping Brentford in the EPL for four consecutive seasons.
