View original imageOn June 6, Damyang County in South Jeolla Province, together with South Jeolla Province, held a memorial ceremony at Damyang Peace Art Square to commemorate the 70th Memorial Day and honor the noble sacrifices of the patriotic martyrs and fallen heroes.
The ceremony was solemnly conducted under the theme "Living Patriotism in Everyday Life, Patriotism for All." The event was attended by Kim Yungrok, Governor of South Jeolla Province, Jeong Chelwon, Mayor of Damyang County, heads of veterans' organizations and related institutions, national merit recipients and their families, as well as about 400 local residents.
The ceremony began with a moment of silence for the patriotic martyrs at 10 a.m., accompanied by sirens sounded nationwide. This was followed by a rifle salute, the offering of flowers and incense, a memorial address, commendations for national merit recipients, a commemorative performance, and the singing of the Memorial Day song.
Mayor Jeong Chelwon stated, "Together with the residents, we will remember and never forget the patriotism and spirit of sacrifice of those who gave their lives for our nation. I hope that Damyang Peace Art Square, along with the Generation Harmony Center scheduled for completion in 2026, will become a space where all generations can experience the importance of freedom, history, and patriotism in everyday life."
Meanwhile, in recognition of June as the Month of Patriots and Veterans, Damyang County plans to promote a culture of patriotism in daily life through various events and promotional activities involving local residents.
