According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the summer season this year (June to August) is expected to be hotter than usual, with generally higher precipitation. Accordingly, the special inspection will focus on checking whether there is any possibility of damage to facilities due to typhoons, high temperatures, or heavy rain.
In addition, the commission plans to analyze cases of equipment failures caused by natural disasters over the past ten years, confirm measures to prevent similar incidents, and assess the adequacy of emergency response systems of nuclear operators.
This special inspection will involve not only the Nuclear Safety Commission, the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety, and the Korea Institute of Nuclear Nonproliferation and Control, but also public officials from 13 local governments, including Gyeongju in North Gyeongsang Province and Gijang County in Busan.
