Gwangju University Holds "Morujeon" Exhibition Inspired by Stray Cats
Morujeon work. 'Why would they go into that space when there is a wider area available and what are the two of them doing there?'
View original imageGwangju University announced on June 5 that it will hold the 2nd "Morujeon" exhibition, inspired by stray cats, following last year's event.
The main figures of this exhibition are "Moru," who first wandered into the university's metal craft studio on the first floor of the main building in November 2022, and "Morning," a kitten discovered by graduate students under a Kia Morning car last summer after losing its mother, who was then carefully nurtured and has now joined as a new family member.
Hosted by the Moruhoe, the exhibition will be held for ten days from June 9 to 18 at the Hosim Art Museum on campus. This year, eligibility to participate has been expanded to include all university members, allowing visitors to experience works from an even wider range of genres.
Under the theme "Good Morning & Moru," the exhibition will feature a selection of products for companion animals and a pop-up store. Works expressing the bond between students and Moru & Morning, as well as a variety of items for companion animals and their owners, will be on display and available for purchase. There will also be a mug decorating activity for those who register in advance.
Kim Jieun, president of Moruhoe and a lecturer in the Department of Fashion Jewelry Design, said, "Last year's 'first exhibition for companion animals and their owners' brought joy and comfort to many pet owners. The two lives that came to us by chance have now become a part of our daily lives and have become 'family' living together. We have captured the warm energy and special stories brought by these small and delicate beings in this design exhibition."
Meanwhile, in response to the era of 13 million companion animal owners, Gwangju University has established a Department of Companion Animal Health Industry to foster specialized professionals. The university recruited its first freshmen this year, embarking on the cultivation of talent to lead the companion animal health and industry sectors and to realize a with-life together with companion animals.
