The signing ceremony, held on the 27th, was attended by Gwangju Mayor Kang Gijung, Gwangju University Vice President Jang Miyeong, and representatives from 17 local universities in Gwangju (Gwangju RISE Committee), who officially declared the launch of the Gwangju-style RISE project.
The RISE project is a regional balanced development strategy led by local governments and overseen by the Ministry of Education. The project aims to establish a new regional development model by integrating education, industry, and settlement, with universities serving as hubs for regional innovation. Through this agreement, Gwangju University and Gwangju Metropolitan City will work together to build a leading RISE model, achieve tangible results, and discover and spread best practices.
Specifically, to foster innovative young talent (SKILL-UP), the university will operate customized educational programs linked to local industries. To support business growth (VALUE-UP), it will expand industry-academia cooperation-based business support programs. The university will also promote projects aimed at solving local community issues (GROW-UP) and address key regional challenges. For university innovation (INNO-UP), it plans to play a central role in advancing research and education systems and driving organizational innovation.
Roh Seonsik, head of the RISE Project Group, stated, "This will serve as an opportunity to design a sustainable future for the region together," adding, "We will continue to enhance our innovation capabilities and talent development systems to address local issues and strengthen the foundation for settlement."
