RISE Chairman Kim Heonyoung Delivers Lecture on "The RISE System and University Innovation" at Mokpo National University

Mokpo National University (President Song Hacheol) announced on May 29 that it had invited RISE Chairman Kim Heonyoung to give a lecture on the theme of "The RISE System and University Innovation" at the main lecture hall of the College of Pharmacy on May 27.
This lecture was organized by the Glocal University Promotion Team of Mokpo National University with the goal of successfully advancing the Regional Innovation-led University Support System (RISE) and the Glocal University Project. More than 100 participants attended, including university faculty and staff, Jeollanam-do officials, Jeonnam RISE Center representatives, and members of private universities in the Jeonnam region, demonstrating high interest and engagement.

View original imageIn his lecture, Chairman Kim analyzed the current social and educational environment, and presented specific strategies and performance goals for the RISE project, which aims to pursue co-growth between the region and universities.
He particularly emphasized, "In the future, society must transform into an open, creative, and horizontal cooperative relationship in which diverse innovation actors from government, universities, industry, and civil society participate," and added, "Universities serve as mediators among regional actors, so they must fulfill their role as active agents of regional development."
President Song Hacheol stated, "In an era of declining school-age population and extreme uncertainty, close cooperation between the region and universities is essential," and added, "Chairman Kim Heonyoung's visit and lecture at Mokpo National University will be a valuable opportunity for mutual development between the region and the university."
Chairman Kim is a distinguished scholar in mechanical engineering who earned his Ph.D. in mechanical design from Seoul National University. He previously served as president of Kangwon National University and as chairman of the Korean Council for University Education, making significant contributions to shaping the direction of higher education in Korea and fostering cooperation. He is currently serving as chairman of the RISE Committee, working to ensure the successful establishment and expansion of the RISE system.
This lecture is expected to provide practical assistance to Mokpo National University and other regional universities in understanding the RISE system and successfully advancing the Glocal University Project to lead regional innovation.
