Megabox Highlights Short Films... Starting with Director Jung Yumi's 'Glasses'
Securing Diversity and Discovering Emerging Directors
On May 29, Megabox announced that it will spotlight well-made short films, beginning with director Jung Yumi's 'Glasses' and 'Paranoid Kid.' The company plans to expand opportunities for audiences to experience these works, secure greater diversity, and discover emerging directors.
'Glasses,' which will be exclusively released on June 11, is the first Korean animated film ever invited to the short film competition section of the Critics' Week at this year's Cannes Film Festival. The film delicately depicts the process of confronting and reconciling with one's inner shadow through detailed pencil drawings and restrained direction. It metaphorically unravels repressed emotions and memories, completing a narrative of psychological growth.
Another upcoming release, 'Paranoid Kid,' is based on an illustrated diary written during bouts of insomnia and portrays inner anxieties and complex emotions. Actress Bae Doona participates as the narrator, adding depth to the film. Recognized for its artistic merit, the film will be featured at the Zagreb International Animation Festival, which opens on June 2.
