"Breaking Asia's Records"... Shanghai Legoland Resort, Larger Than Korea's, to Open in July
Admission Fee Set at About 105,000 Won per Adult
"Miniland" Built with 20 Million Lego Bricks Unveiled
In July, the world's largest global theme park, Legoland, will open in Shanghai, China.
According to China Daily and other Chinese state media on May 28, Merlin Entertainments announced that Shanghai Legoland Resort, ahead of its official opening on July 5, has begun selling admission tickets (one-day passes) and hotel room reservations starting today.
Located in Jinshan District, Shanghai, and built on a scale of 318,000 square meters, this site surpasses not only Legoland Korea in Chuncheon, formerly the largest Legoland in Asia, but is also the largest among all Legoland parks worldwide. The park applies a six-tiered pricing system based on peak and off-peak seasons. For the first month after opening, the admission price for one adult is set at 549 yuan (approximately 105,000 won), regardless of the date.
Previously, on May 6, the ticket package including hotel accommodation, which was offered in advance, sold out within a single day. Legoland is designed as a space for children aged 2 to 12 and their families, featuring Lego models built from over 85 million Lego bricks and more than 75 attractions.
Shanghai Legoland's signature attractions include the world's first "Big Lego Coaster" and the "Legoland Observation Tower," which offers a panoramic view of the resort from a height of 60 meters.
Legoland is scheduled to begin trial operations on May 31. "Miniland," which was completed using 20 million Lego bricks and took about 168,000 hours to build, will also be unveiled. This miniature recreation of Shanghai's tourist landmarks, such as the Oriental Pearl Tower and the Bund, uses a smart lighting system to create a vibrant display that alternates between day and night.
If all the bricks used in Miniland were lined up in a single row, they would circle the Earth 16 times. Shanghai Legoland is the fourth Legoland to open in Asia, following Johor, Malaysia (2012), Nagoya, Japan (2017), and Chuncheon, Korea (2022). It is the eleventh Legoland worldwide.
