View original imageAsthma is a condition in which inflammation of the bronchi causes symptoms such as coughing, wheezing (a whistling sound when breathing), shortness of breath, and chest tightness to occur intermittently and repeatedly.
Shortness of breath occurs as the mucous membranes swell and narrow, and the bronchial muscles spasm. Major causes include air pollution such as exhaust fumes and fine dust, pollen from trees, house dust mites, cigarette smoke, and cold air.
The lecture was led by Kim Sori, Director of the Jeonbuk Atopy and Asthma Education Information Center and Professor of Pulmonology at Jeonbuk National University Hospital. She provided detailed explanations on asthma symptoms and causes, prevention methods for each season, and emergency response strategies.
Practical information was provided that could be immediately applied to daily life and tailored to the needs of senior citizens, such as how to use inhalers, tips for managing indoor air quality, and lifestyle habits to reduce exposure to allergens. The program received a positive response from participants. In addition, activities such as an OX quiz were included to make the education more engaging.
Lee Jaeyeon, Director of the Public Health Center, stated, "Elderly people are particularly vulnerable to respiratory diseases, so it is important to provide accurate information and continuous health education." She added, "We will continue to support healthy aging for seniors through a variety of health education programs."
