The Sweet Encounter of "Melon + Bingsu"... Goryeong County to Host Melbing Festival
Goryeong County in North Gyeongsang Province will host the "2025 Goryeong Melbing Festival," themed around the region's signature agricultural specialty, melon, and the popular summer dessert, bingsu. The festival will take place over three days from June 7 to June 9, in the area surrounding the Daegaya Culture Nuri Center.
This year marks the first edition of the festival, which is planned as a new-concept summer event under the theme "Melo-ON" (Melo meaning love, ON meaning beginning). The festival aims to combine the sweetness of Goryeong melons with the refreshing coolness of bingsu.
Hosted by Goryeong County and organized by the Goryeong County Tourism Association, the festival will run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. It is expected to promote local specialties and contribute to revitalizing the local economy.
At the festival, visitors can purchase Goryeong-grown melons at affordable prices directly from farm-operated booths. There will also be a variety of family-friendly experience programs, including making melon bingsu, crafting melon-scented perfume, slime, and fans. In addition, unique events such as a water gun and bubble show, as well as "Mellympics" (Melo+Olympics) featuring melon curling, shooting, and gateball, will offer visitors a distinctive and entertaining experience.
A rich lineup of music performances is also scheduled. On June 7, the "Goryeong Music Festival" will feature singer Lee Chanwon from "Mr. Trot," along with Lisenn and rapper DinDin. On June 8, there will be a "100 Gayageum Performance" featuring 100 gayageum players. On June 9, the "County Residents' King of Singers Contest," with participation from local residents, will take place.
In particular, on the final night of the festival, the "Daegaya Starlight Show," a fireworks and drone display, will illuminate the Goryeong night sky. During the day, the "Daegaya Ancient Capital Designation Commemoration Ceremony" will be held to promote Goryeong's historical and cultural identity both locally and beyond.
County Governor Lee Namcheol stated, "Through this festival, which brings together melons, bingsu, music, and hands-on experiences, we hope to enhance the brand value of Goryeong County and invigorate the local commercial district. We invite many people to visit with family, loved ones, and friends to create sweet and crisp memories together."
