Dongjak District Extends Free COVID-19 Vaccinations Until June 30
Signs of COVID-19 Resurgence in Asia
Mayor Urges Seniors and High-Risk Groups to Get Vaccinated
Dongjak District in Seoul will extend its free COVID-19 vaccination program for high-risk groups until June 30, in preparation for a potential resurgence of COVID-19 during the summer. This measure follows a decision by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, and the district plans to actively prevent COVID-19 infections by increasing the vaccination rate during the extended period.
The free vaccination program is available to high-risk groups, including seniors aged 65 and older (those born on or before December 31, 1959), immunocompromised individuals aged six months and older, and residents or inpatients of infection-prone facilities who are at high risk of developing severe illness if infected.
The JN.1 vaccine used in this campaign has demonstrated a strong preventive effect by eliciting effective immune responses against variant viruses such as XEC and LP.8.1, which are currently circulating both domestically and internationally. Notably, even those who have already completed the 2024-2025 season COVID-19 vaccination can receive an additional dose during this extended period, provided that at least 90 days have passed since their last vaccination.
Vaccinations are available at COVID-19 designated medical institutions nationwide. The list of participating institutions can be found on the 'Vaccination Helper' website. Individuals must bring identification when receiving the vaccine, and it is recommended to contact the medical institution in advance before visiting. Please note that vaccinations are not available at Dongjak District Health Center, health branches, or sub-centers.
