Startup Support Program in Partnership with the Korea Institute of Startup & Entrepreneurship Development
Ten Environmental Startups Selected... Business Collaboration Included
From Tailored Mentoring to Technology Verification

SK Innovation is accelerating its efforts to foster environmental technology startups. By partnering with the Korea Institute of Startup & Entrepreneurship Development, the company is selecting startups with 'green technology' and strengthening public-private collaboration, focusing on the field of carbon reduction.

On May 28, SK Innovation announced that it recently held a launch ceremony for the 5th cohort of its environmental technology startup incubation program, "Egg," at Sim Office in Seongdong-gu, Seoul. The name "Egg" is a combination of the "E" from SK Innovation and the "G" from green startups. This program is part of the "Startup Leap Package Large Enterprise Collaboration Program" led by the Korea Institute of Startup & Entrepreneurship Development. SK Innovation has been participating in this program for five consecutive years.

A total of 10 environmental startups have been selected for the 5th Egg cohort. These companies were evaluated based on business performance, technological innovation, and the potential for collaboration with SK Innovation affiliates. In particular, this year, companies with capabilities in carbon reduction, waste management, and energy safety?specifically those that can help reduce environmental pollution?were chosen.

The selected companies will collaborate with SK Innovation affiliates for one year, leveraging their specialized technologies in areas such as ▲ digital waste cooking oil collection and certification solutions ▲ carbon capture technology ▲ energy storage system (ESS) fire prevention systems. The collaboration will include joint R&D, technology verification, and demo day events. SK Innovation also plans to provide tailored mentoring and scale-up support in parallel.

Since launching the first Egg cohort in 2021, SK Innovation has supported a total of 78 companies through last year. Eldicarbon, which possesses resource circulation technology and graduated from the first Egg cohort, signed a business agreement with SK Incheon Petrochem and, in April, completed construction of Asia's largest waste tire resource circulation plant in Dangjin. BNG Partners, a company from the 4th Egg cohort, is currently building a green finance platform based on K-Taxonomy compliance evaluation in collaboration with SK Innovation. This service is scheduled to officially launch for environmental startups in the second half of this year.

An SK Innovation official stated, "We will continue to collaborate and provide support at the scale-up stage so that startups with promising technologies can grow into unicorns in the environmental sector."
