The "Smart Eco-Factory Construction Project" is a system that supports facility improvements for domestic small and medium-sized enterprises and mid-sized companies, with the aim of promoting eco-friendly transformation. The project specifically supports the reduction of greenhouse gases and pollutants, as well as the enhancement of resource circulation.
At the beginning of this year, Ildong Pharmaceutical applied for the project as part of its efforts to expand and advance ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management. After undergoing the corporation's review and selection process, the company began full-scale renovation work at its Cheongju Plant this month.
Ildong Pharmaceutical plans to focus on several areas in the project: enhancing energy efficiency, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, minimizing the discharge of pollutants such as waste, improving workplace safety and health, and fostering harmony with the local community.
In particular, the company intends to strengthen both productivity and eco-friendly factors by expanding high-efficiency equipment, introducing waste treatment and recycling facilities, and establishing a monitoring system utilizing ICT (Information and Communication Technology).
A representative from Ildong Pharmaceutical explained, "Once the Smart Eco-Factory Construction Project at the Cheongju Plant is completed, we expect to achieve both economic and environmental benefits, such as saving 180 million won annually in energy costs and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 220 tons."
The representative added, "By reinforcing auxiliary facilities such as purification equipment and safety devices, we also anticipate improvements in workplace safety and health, as well as positive effects on the surrounding environment."
Ildong Pharmaceutical has consistently pursued improvement activities, including obtaining and operating the ISO 14001 environmental management system certification for its production facilities, and introducing and expanding solar power self-generation systems.
