Kim Moonsoo: "Local Extinction Is a More Urgent Issue Than Wildfires"
20 Regional Pledges Announced at People Power Party's South Chungcheong Office on the 26th
"We Will Drastically Ease Water Source Protection and Development Restriction Zones Within a Year"
Kim Moonsoo, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, stated on the 26th, "The extinction of local regions is a more urgent issue than wildfires."
On this day, after announcing 20 pledges at the People Power Party's South Chungcheong Provincial Office aimed at realizing a prosperous Korea led by local regions, Kim emphasized this point.
Kim said, "These pledges are areas that have already been discussed for a long time. All of them have undergone considerable verification," adding, "We will actively respond to the growth crisis facing local regions and ensure that there is no discrimination no matter where you live in Korea."
He continued, "The most misguided thing is maintaining green belts in local regions when they are already facing population extinction. There is no reason to keep them," stressing, "This is armchair theorizing from the central government. They have no understanding of the reality on the ground and refuse to delegate authority. We will boldly distribute power to every corner."
Regarding regulations, he said, "There are all kinds of regulations, such as water source protection zones and development restriction zones. Within a year, I will drastically ease them," raising his voice, "Local regions can only survive if regulations are lifted. Why only talk about balanced development and not actually do it? It doesn't even cost money."
He went on to say, "I have felt this acutely on the ground. When you visit local regions, you see abandoned houses increasing every year and the population declining. I believe this cannot be left unattended," adding, "We must resolve the issue of local extinction as swiftly as we would respond to a wildfire. It is an urgent matter."
Prior to this, Kim put forward four pledges related to a "Korea led by local regions," including constitutional amendments for local autonomy and bold transfer of central government authority. In the area of "joint development of the capital and non-capital regions," he proposed five measures, such as the early completion of the administrative capital and the deferral of capital gains tax for those relocating to non-capital regions.
In the field of "fostering new growth engines for regional industries," there are a total of 11 pledges, including the establishment of "national AI supercomputing centers" at key metropolitan hubs and the designation and expansion of new economic free zones.
