[Market Focus] KNJ Rises on News of Samsung Electronics to Use 'Glass Substrates' in Semiconductors from 2028... Joint Patent Up
KNJ shares are showing strength. This is believed to be influenced by news that Samsung Electronics will introduce glass substrates in semiconductor manufacturing starting in 2028.
As of 10:57 a.m. on May 26, KNJ is trading at 17,270 won, up 4.48% from the previous day.
According to industry sources, Samsung Electronics has set a plan to introduce glass substrates for advanced semiconductor packaging in 2028. The core of this plan is to replace the "silicon interposer" with a "glass interposer." This is the first time that Samsung Electronics' roadmap for glass substrates has been confirmed.
The interposer, also known as the intermediate substrate, is an essential component for AI chips. AI semiconductors use a 2.5D package structure, placing the graphics processing unit (GPU) at the center and high-bandwidth memory (HBM) around it. The interposer serves as the channel connecting the GPU and HBM.
Samsung Electronics' adoption of the glass interposer is seen as a move to respond to the increasing demand for advanced semiconductors driven by AI. Since the company operates a foundry business that manufactures semiconductors based on customer orders, this strategy aims to prepare and offer next-generation technologies.
