Suwon City Sees Significant Decrease in Traffic Fatalities Last Year
The number of traffic fatalities in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, significantly decreased last year.
On May 26, Suwon City announced that, according to an analysis of data released by the Korea Road Traffic Authority's TASS (Traffic Accident Analysis System), there were 24 traffic fatalities in 2024, a decrease of 6 compared to 2023, when there were 30 fatalities. The number of traffic accidents in 2024 was 4,720, a decrease of 0.7% compared to 2023, when there were 4,744 cases.
Suwon City will actively implement customized traffic safety improvement measures targeting vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians, motorcycle riders, and the elderly, in order to prevent traffic accidents and ensure the safety of its citizens.
Additionally, the city will improve the road crossing environment by expanding the installation of crosswalk stop lines with set-back (distanced installation) so that pedestrians can secure their line of sight and cross safely. The city will also conduct traffic safety campaigns and expand smart traffic safety systems.

A Suwon City official stated, "As citizens' awareness of traffic safety increases and the effects of traffic safety improvement projects, which are being promoted in cooperation with related organizations, become apparent, we expect the number of fatal accidents to decrease."
