Korea Federation of SMEs Discusses Export Strategies for Textile Industry
The First Session of the Textile Industry Committee 2025 Held
The Korea Federation of SMEs announced on May 26, 2025, that it had held the first session of the "Textile Industry Committee" for 2025.
This committee, established in 2015, has represented the interests of small and medium-sized enterprises in the textile industry?including those in fashion color, fabric, and knitwear?by devising strategies to strengthen industrial competitiveness and promote growth. The chairman of this session was Kim Kwonki, Chairman of the Korea Bag Industry Cooperative Association.
The newly formed committee includes six external experts, such as Lee Youngwoo from KOTITI Testing & Research Institute and Kim Jongbeom, Professor in the Department of Clothing at Suwon University, who will work together to explore ways to advance the industry.
During the meeting, Nam Hyeongwoo, a customs broker, gave a presentation on "Changes in U.S. Tariff Policy on Textile Products and Export Response Strategies." The participants also shared current issues faced by SMEs in the textile industry, identified challenges, and discussed operational plans for the committee.

Chairman Kim Kwonki stated, "The textile industry is facing significant difficulties due to uncertain domestic and international political situations, decreased demand caused by economic recession, and increased costs resulting from higher electricity rates." He emphasized, "To revitalize the textile industry, various support policies are needed, including expanding government support for procurement markets, localization of defense textiles, and support for textile exporters and domestic manufacturers."
