Ensuring the protection of buried heritage while supporting stable progress of national policy projects
The Cultural Heritage Administration announced on May 26 that it will operate a "Joint On-Site Inspection Team for Metropolitan Area National Policy Project Excavation Sites." The team aims to prevent and address issues that may arise between the implementation of development projects, such as the creation of the third phase of new towns, and the protection of buried cultural heritage.

View original imageThe joint inspection team consists of the Cultural Heritage Administration, Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Development Corporation (GH), Incheon Housing and City Corporation (IH), and a buried heritage advisory group (including members of the Cultural Heritage Committee and expert advisors). Starting next month, the team will inspect large-scale excavation sites of buried heritage in eleven districts, working to ensure the protection of buried heritage while enabling the stable progress of national policy projects.
The sites to be inspected include Namyangju Wangsuk 1 and 2 Public Housing Districts, Goyang Changneung Public Housing District, Gwangmyeong Siheung Public Housing District, Yongin Platform City, and Incheon Guwol 2 Public Housing District, among others.

A representative from the Cultural Heritage Administration explained, "The team will conduct inspections twice a year, covering administrative processes related to excavation permits, permit changes, partial completions, the status of safety management, current issues regarding the protection and preservation of buried heritage, and civil complaints at excavation sites." The representative added, "If any issues arise, we plan to include local governments and conduct ad hoc inspections as needed."
