Busan Urban Corporation Earns "BEMS Installation Confirmation Grade 2" for Busan Concert Hall
First Achievement in Public Building Energy Management
"Reducing Concert Hall Energy Use and Creating a Comfortable Environment at the Same Time"
Busan Urban Corporation (BMC), led by President Shin Changho, announced that the Busan Concert Hall, which it completed, has been officially certified as a "smart energy building."
On May 22, BMC reported that the Busan Concert Hall, constructed as a commissioned project by the city of Busan, received a "Building Energy Management System (BEMS) Installation Confirmation Grade 2" from the Korea Energy Agency.
The BEMS (Building Energy Management System) Installation Confirmation Program is a national certification system overseen by the Korea Energy Agency. It inspects the energy usage and management systems of public buildings and supports the realization of carbon neutrality. The system maximizes energy savings by integrating and managing energy-intensive facilities such as heating and cooling, lighting, and ventilation in real time within the building.
After applying for certification in December of last year, BMC underwent continuous facility monitoring and performance verification discussions, ultimately obtaining the final Grade 2 certification on May 16. This certification is particularly significant as it is recognized as the first achievement in BMC's independent efforts to establish an energy management system for public buildings.
The Busan Concert Hall is a complex cultural facility equipped with various high-energy systems, including large-scale heating and cooling, ventilation, and stage lighting. It is characterized by significant fluctuations in energy consumption depending on audience size and performance schedules. Accordingly, the introduction of BEMS is expected not only to reduce energy consumption but also to provide a more comfortable environment for visitors.
