Gwangjin-gu Steps Up Ground Subsidence Prevention... Full-Scale Inspection and Survey of Aging Sewer Pipelines Underway
Kim Kyungho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, Conducts On-Site Inspection of Aging Sewer Pipelines... Resident Safety as Top Priority
Focused Inspection of Over 30-Year-Old Pipelines and High-Risk Ground Subsidence Areas
Proactive Response to Sinkholes and Safety Accidents Using High-Resolution CCTV and GPR
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyungho) will begin full-scale implementation of the "CCTV Inspection and Ground Survey Service for Aging Sewer Pipelines" to prevent ground subsidence and sinkhole accidents.
The purpose of this inspection is to identify sections with a high risk of ground subsidence in advance and to prevent safety accidents such as sinkholes in urban areas through prompt repair and reinforcement.
The district will conduct intensive inspections of all 140 kilometers of aging pipelines that are over 30 years old. First, high-risk sections with multiple damages will be identified through visual inspections. Then, high-resolution CCTV equipment will be used to conduct detailed inspections of the internal condition of the sewer pipelines.
Additionally, for 150 kilometers of sections with a high risk of ground subsidence, GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) equipment will be used to precisely investigate the presence of cavities beneath the roadbed.
Based on the results of the CCTV inspections, the district will assess the degree of pipeline damage and promptly repair sections requiring urgent attention. Step-by-step maintenance work will be carried out according to priority in order to ensure the long-term stability of the sewer pipelines.
If the GPR survey confirms a risk of ground subsidence underground, holes will be drilled and inspected with an endoscope. If cavities are found, filling materials will be injected immediately to carry out repairs.
On May 20, Kim Kyungho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, visited the inspection site for aging sewer pipelines, checked the condition of the pipelines, and reviewed the operation of the CCTV equipment. He received a report on sewer pipeline safety management measures and maintenance plans, and directly checked the management status on site.
