Seven Areas Including Fire Suppression, CPR, and Earthquake Response

On May 21, the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education announced that it had conducted hands-on field safety experience training for 77 foreign exchange students enrolled in vocational high schools in the province, at the Jeonnam Education Office Safety Experience Center.

This experiential learning program was designed to enhance students' ability to respond to various emergency situations such as fires, earthquakes, and CPR. It was organized to raise safety awareness among foreign exchange students living in unfamiliar environments and to strengthen their accident prevention capabilities.

Foreign students from five vocational high schools, including Mokpo Girls’ Commercial High School, Gurim Technical High School, Korea Horse Industry High School, Jeonnam Life Science High School, and Wando Fisheries High School, participated in the program.

The students were divided into four groups and took part in practice-oriented training across seven areas of school safety education, including: fire suppression and evacuation procedures, CPR and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) usage, earthquake response techniques, and traffic safety rules. The program was structured to maximize participant engagement by focusing on hands-on learning and direct practice.

Biatriz, a student from Cuba attending Mokpo Girls’ Commercial High School, shared, “I didn’t know how to respond in situations like earthquakes or fires, but thanks to what I learned today, I feel more confident. I think I’ll be able to stay calm and respond appropriately even in emergencies.”

Previously, in April, the Provincial Office of Education produced and distributed customized multilingual safety leaflets in five languages, enabling foreign exchange students to voluntarily receive safety education and allowing each school to utilize the materials as needed.

Kim Daejung, Superintendent of the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education, stated, “This safety experience program has been a very meaningful opportunity to provide foreign exchange students with practical and systematic safety education. We will continue to promote ongoing safety education so that all students can develop the ability to protect themselves in various dangerous situations.”
