In addition, risk factors within the facility were identified, safety management training was provided for relevant personnel such as fire safety managers, and a discussion was held to establish an effective joint response system in the event of a chemical accident.
This safety consulting is a proactive measure to respond to the frequent hazardous chemical accidents occurring nationwide. The Fire Headquarters has selected 10 key companies, out of 430 hazardous chemical handling businesses in the province, that possess large quantities of hazardous substances as priority management targets, and is conducting consulting for them sequentially.
According to the 'Chemical Information System,' a total of 45 chemical accidents have occurred in the province from 2020 to May 2025. Among these, 14 cases occurred in 2023 and 8 cases in 2024, showing a particularly notable increase. During the same period, a total of 9 people were injured.
Park Kyungsoo, head of the Special Response Team, said, "Facilities handling hazardous chemicals in the province can lead to extensive human and property damage in the event of a leak, so prompt and systematic initial response is most important. We will continue to strengthen our accident response capabilities and do our utmost to ensure the safety of residents through ongoing on-site consulting and response plan reviews."
