The event was chaired by Dr. Jang Yunbae from the Gyeonggi Research Institute, with Professor Bae Gimok from Daejin University, Professor Lee Beomhyeon from Sungkyul University, and Vice President Ahn Sanghun from the Korean Association of Urban and Regional Planning participating as panelists. More than 200 citizens attended the event, demonstrating strong interest in Paju City's urban planning.
The "2040 Paju Urban Master Plan (Draft)," currently being developed, sets the city's future vision as "Paju, a peace-centered city in Korea where people and nature coexist and grow together." Key elements of the plan include: changing the target year (from 2030 to 2040); setting the planned population at 772,000 (a 12% increase compared to the previous plan); restructuring living zones (from three regional centers and eight district centers to one central city, two sub-centers, and eight regional centers); and revising plans for areas designated for urbanization and various sectoral plans (infrastructure, housing, environment, landscape, parks and green spaces, disaster safety, and economy).
Paju City plans to incorporate the opinions of citizens and expert advice presented at this public hearing, consult with relevant departments, and seek advice from the Paju City Urban Planning Committee before submitting the "2040 Paju Urban Master Plan (Draft)" to the Governor of Gyeonggi Province for approval.
A citizen who attended the public hearing commented, "I was impressed that opportunities for citizen participation, such as the operation of the 'Bigger Paju Citizen Planning Group,' were provided during the process of establishing the urban master plan. I hope that an urban plan will be developed that allows citizens to live more conveniently and comfortably."
