Seo Samseok Welcomes Lee Jaemyung's Presidential Pledges for Yeongam, Muan, and Shinan
Yeongam: Multipurpose Complex near Daebul Industrial Complex... Leap Forward as Southwestern Hub
Muan: Fostering Specialized Advanced Industrial Complexes to Lead National Future Industries
Shinan: Early Construction of Heuksan Airport and Additional Connecting Bridges
Seo Samseok, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea representing Yeongam, Muan, and Shinan in South Jeolla Province, commented on May 19 regarding presidential candidate Lee Jaemyung's "Yeongam·Muan·Shinan Our Neighborhood Pledge," stating, "The pledge presents tailored solutions that broadly reflect the region's needs, including improvements in local industry, transportation, and residential environment." He further welcomed the announcement, saying, "I expect it will be a great help not only in resolving long-standing local issues but also in securing future competitiveness."
The pledge, unveiled that day, aligns with candidate Lee's vision of "Wellsanism: Livelihood Politics That Change My Life," and consists of customized pledges that residents can feel in their daily lives, as well as regional development strategies to overcome the crisis of local extinction. For each of Yeongam, Muan, and Shinan counties, six key tasks were included.
For Yeongam, the pledge includes the creation of a multipurpose complex near the Daebul Industrial Complex that integrates residential, tourism, and industrial functions to strengthen living infrastructure for residents. It also promises to establish advanced industrial sites to help Yeongam emerge as an innovation hub in the southwestern region. Additionally, the pledge includes the creation of a bio cluster utilizing abundant crop resources such as figs and sweet potatoes, aiming to make Yeongam a national green bio industry center.
For Muan, the plan includes developing Muan International Airport into the gateway airport for the southwestern region and significantly enhancing the industrial competitiveness of the airport and KTX station hinterland industrial complexes. The pledge also promises to designate an aviation-specialized industrial complex as a national industrial complex to attract businesses, and to establish a future-oriented, specialized advanced industrial national complex linked with RE100. The creation of an AI advanced agricultural industry convergence district and a K-Food convergence industrial complex is also expected to lead to the establishment of large-scale corporate complexes that will drive the nation's future industries.
For Shinan, the pledge includes support for the early commencement of construction of Heuksan Airport as a presidential pledge. Heuksan Airport faced difficulties in opening in 2027 due to additional investigations for securing airport safety facilities that have been underway since last year. With the adoption of this presidential pledge, full-scale government support is expected, making a normal opening likely. In addition, the pledge includes the construction of additional connecting bridges and the expansion of national highways, which are expected to greatly improve the regional transportation network.
Seo emphasized, "If candidate Lee Jaemyung becomes president, the government will take the lead in managing these pledged projects, which is expected to be a turning point for regional development," adding, "Knowing candidate Lee's competence and ability to execute, I am confident that these customized pledges for our region will definitely be realized."
Seo added, "I will do my utmost together with candidate Lee to ensure that other long-standing projects are also carried out without a hitch," and appealed, "Please give your overwhelming support to elect candidate Lee so that we can lay a groundbreaking foundation for the development of Yeongam, Muan, and Shinan."
