On May 19, the Democratic Party of Korea announced the "Our Neighborhood Pledge" for Gwangsan District as part of the 21st Presidential Election, confirming seven pledges including support for the establishment of a metropolitan railway network centered on Gwangju Songjeong Station.
According to the office of Democratic Party lawmaker Park Gyuntaek and others, the "Our Neighborhood Pledge" is a set of tailored pledges the Democratic Party offers to meet the needs of each region. The Gwangsan District pledges this time reflect key issues from both Gwangsan-gap (represented by Park Gyuntaek) and Gwangsan-eul (represented by Min Hyungbae).
The seven major pledges for Gwangsan District are as follows: ▲Support for the establishment of the Honam metropolitan railway network centered on Gwangju Songjeong Station ▲Support for the creation of an economic and cultural complex hub in the Gwangju Songjeong Station area ▲Support for developing the Mahan Historical and Cultural Zone into a cultural tourism city ▲Support for water quality improvement and ecological restoration of urban streams (Pungyeongjeongcheon and Jangsujeon) ▲Support for the creation of Gwangju Kimchi Village to promote kimchi tourism resources ▲Support for converting combined sewer treatment facilities in the old downtown to a separated system ▲Support for establishing a pilot district for an advanced bicycle-specialized village.
Among these, pledges related to Gwangju Songjeong Station are considered the core for the Gwangsan-gap area. These include routing the Seohaean Line through Gwangju Songjeong Station, gradually undergrounding the Gwangju Station to Gwangju Songjeong Station section in connection with the construction of the Dalbit Railway, creating a complex cultural space in the station area, increasing the number of high-speed trains, supporting the relocation and site development of the Kumho Tire factory, and additionally designating the area as a leading KTX investment district.
The pledge by Assemblyman Park to expand Phase 4 of Gwangju Subway Line 2 (Songjeong Station-Seoun District Saam-ro to Suwan Station) was also included in this set of pledges.
