The Chungnam Office of Education announced that at the 19th National Sports Festival for Students with Disabilities, held over four days in the Gyeongnam area and concluding on May 16, the team won 45 gold medals, 50 silver medals, and 31 bronze medals, for a total of 126 medals. This result placed Chungnam third overall, following Gyeonggi and Chungbuk.
The Chungnam team participated in 11 out of 17 events, fielding a delegation of 432 people (including 150 athletes and 282 directors, coaches, instructors, and staff). While the team aimed for second place overall, they ultimately had to settle for third place for the fourth consecutive year.
In this competition, the Chungnam team achieved its tenth consecutive nationwide championship in athletics and secured its fifth consecutive championship in disc golf, firmly maintaining its position as the top contender in these events.
Notably, the team produced nine multi-medalists, including Kim Dongyeon, who won three titles in athletics. The team demonstrated balanced skills across all 11 events it entered, including boccia, swimming, badminton, weightlifting, and bowling, achieving meaningful results.
Kim Ilsu, Deputy Superintendent, stated, "Despite difficult circumstances, our Chungnam athletes, guiding teachers, directors, coaches, and guardians all came together and achieved great results through their efforts. I extend my congratulations to all the athletes, guiding teachers, directors, and coaches who gave their best with fairness and integrity, and I also express my gratitude to the Chungnam Sports Association for the Disabled and the representatives of Samsung SDI for their generous support of our students."
Meanwhile, the Chungnam Office of Education plans to hold a comprehensive awards ceremony on June 30 to congratulate and encourage medalists from the National Sports Festival for Students with Disabilities, presenting commendations and prize money to winning athletes, outstanding guiding teachers, directors and coaches, as well as to the schools and education support offices that fostered the winning athletes.
