Gwangju Police to Hold Phishing Crime Prevention Content Contest
Three Categories: Video, Poster, and Slogan
On May 19, the Gwangju Police Agency announced that it will host a 'Phishing Crime Prevention Content Contest' in collaboration with the Gwangju City Autonomous Police Committee and the Korea Internet & Security Agency, focusing on the prevention and response to phishing crimes.
The contest aims to raise public awareness and enhance prevention of various phishing crimes, including voice phishing, messenger phishing, and sexual exploitation video calls (commonly known as 'bodycam phishing').
The contest will run for 74 days from today until July 31, and will be held in three categories: video (short-form), poster (hand-drawn, web poster, card news), and slogan.
Participation is open to all citizens with an address in Gwangju, as well as students and parents from local daycare centers, kindergartens, and schools, and anyone working at institutions, organizations, or businesses located in the area. Participants may enter either individually or as a team. Entries can be submitted through the Gwangju Police Agency's website.
After the contest ends, a total of 10 winners will be selected through a judging process, including one grand prize winner (prize money of 700,000 won), as well as one best award, one excellence award, and one encouragement award in each category (individual or team). A total of 2.7 million won in prize money and certificates will be awarded. The winning entries are scheduled to be announced in August.
The selected content will be used in online and offline phishing crime prevention campaigns through the official promotional channels of the Gwangju Police Agency, Gwangju City Hall, the Autonomous Police Committee, and the Korea Internet & Security Agency.
A police official stated, "Phishing crimes are serious offenses in which perpetrators impersonate financial institutions, investigative agencies, or acquaintances to fraudulently obtain money. In 2024 alone, there were 20,839 cases nationwide (with damages totaling 854.5 billion won), and 436 cases in the Gwangju area alone (with damages totaling 20.5 billion won). We expect that this contest will achieve tangible prevention effects through the direct participation of citizens."
