Seoul Issues Situation Duty Level 1
On the afternoon of May 16, when a heavy rain advisory was issued for most areas of Seoul, major streams were being restricted in preparation for possible flooding.
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government and other authorities, since the issuance of the heavy rain advisory, 18 streams have been closed off: Gupabalcheon, Jeongneungcheon, Hyangdongcheon, Mukdongcheon, Hongjecheon, Uicheon, Cheonggyecheon, Dorimcheon, Danghyeoncheon, Seongbukcheon, Banpocheon, Mokgamcheon, Jungnangcheon, Dobongcheon, Bulgwangcheon, Yeokgokcheon, Anyangcheon, and Banghakcheon.
There have also been 11 cases of drainage assistance and 14 cases of facility safety measures implemented.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government has issued "Situation Duty Level 1 (Caution)" for the northeastern, northwestern, and southwestern districts under the heavy rain advisory, and is operating 25 rainwater pumping stations.
Additionally, the city has sent official notices to all departments and agencies, instructing them to thoroughly manage safety in areas at risk of disasters in preparation for heavy rainfall.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to continuously monitor weather conditions and stream water levels to respond accordingly.
Districts such as Yongsan-gu and Yeongdeungpo-gu have issued disaster text alerts, advising residents to avoid low-lying areas and streams, and not to enter underpasses at risk of flooding.
The evening commute has also been affected by severe congestion due to the heavy rain.

According to the Seoul Traffic Information Center TOPIS, the average speed in downtown Seoul is 8.2 km/h, while the average speed across the entire city is 13.9 km/h.
