Prosecutors have requested arrest warrants for a man and a woman accused of demanding several hundred million won from Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heungmin (33) by claiming that she was pregnant with his child.
On the afternoon of May 16, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office filed for arrest warrants with the court for a woman in her 20s, identified as A, and a man in his 40s, identified as B, on charges of blackmail and attempted blackmail.
Previously, the two were arrested and questioned by the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul. The police applied for arrest warrants to the prosecution on the night before. The Seoul Central District Court is expected to conduct pretrial detention hearings for A and B as early as May 17 or early next week.
A previously had a relationship with Son Heungmin. In June last year, A reportedly told Son Heungmin that she was pregnant, sent him an ultrasound image, and threatened to reveal this information to the public, extorting 300 million won from him.
Subsequently, B, who is A's boyfriend, is said to have made a similar threat to Son Heungmin's side in March this year, demanding 70 million won.
After the demands were repeated, Son Heungmin's side filed a complaint, and both individuals were arrested separately on May 14. Immediately after their arrests, police searched their residences and secured mobile phones and other related materials, investigating the circumstances of the crime and the authenticity of the evidence.
