Mapo-gu Launches Intensive Promotional Campaign on First Day of 'Kickboard-Free Street' Initiative
On May 16, Mapo-gu (District Mayor Park Kangsoo) held an intensive promotional campaign at Exit 8 of Hongdae Entrance Station at 12:00 p.m., in collaboration with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and Mapo Police Station, to mark the first day of the 'Kickboard-Free Street' initiative.
This campaign was launched to inform citizens about the policy and to increase understanding and participation, as the Hongdae Red Road (sections R1 to R6) has been designated as the nation's first 'Personal Mobility Device (PM) Prohibited Zone' and the policy is now being fully implemented.
Park Kangsoo, the Mayor of Mapo-gu, and related public officials held up signboards to inform citizens about the designation of the prohibited zone and to provide safety guidelines for personal mobility devices.
Starting with this campaign, the district plans to continue intensive on-site promotions for about three weeks, together with the Seoul Metropolitan Government, until June 11.
Park Kangsoo, Mayor of Mapo-gu, who attended the campaign that day, said, "It was meaningful to communicate directly with citizens and share the purpose of the policy through today's campaign," and added, "We will continue our promotional efforts to do our best in creating safe, pedestrian-centered streets."
The 'Kickboard-Free Street' operates daily from 12:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., during which time the use of personal mobility devices, such as electric kickboards and electric two-wheeled balance vehicles, is completely prohibited in the Hongdae Red Road section (R1 to R6).
