SH Corporation and KORAIL have signed contracts for basic and detailed design services for four new roads in the Yongsan International Business District and will carry out related work over approximately 24 months.
The project sections and selected consortiums are as follows: ▲ East-West Connecting Road (A-1), Taejo Engineering Consortium ▲ Gangbyeonbuk-ro Connecting Road (A-2), Dongil Engineering Corporation Consortium ▲ North-South Connecting Road (B-1) and Yongsan Station Front to Baekbeom-ro Connecting Road (B-2), Jeil Engineering Consortium.
SH Corporation selected the consortiums through a "Technical Proposal Evaluation (TP)" method. This approach actively utilizes the technical expertise and creativity of the designers to maximize project effectiveness and enhance design quality.
The service providers will handle comprehensive tasks such as investigation, analysis, permits, and design for the construction of the new roads. In addition, to ensure the safety of underground spaces, which has recently garnered increased attention, specialized designs such as an urban underground road "multi-safety disaster prevention system" and a "flood forecasting and warning system" to address abnormal weather will be introduced to thoroughly strengthen disaster response.
This metropolitan traffic improvement project aims to complete design and begin construction in the first half of 2027, with the opening of the new roads targeted for the first half of 2031. The new roads are expected to improve accessibility by connecting the east-west axis of the Gangbuk area, which is currently divided by the Gyeongbu Line railway, and contribute to regional development.
In addition, SH Corporation expects that the project will alleviate traffic congestion and improve traffic flow on major nearby roads such as Gangbyeonbuk-ro, Hangang-daero, and Cheongpa-ro, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of the Yongsan International Business District.
