National Gwangju Science Museum Achieves Web Accessibility Certification for 8 Consecutive Years
Creating a Web Environment for People with Disabilities and the Elderly
All 33 Criteria Met... Quality Certification Received
The National Gwangju Science Museum has officially been recognized for its efforts to create a digitally inclusive environment by obtaining web accessibility certification for eight consecutive years.
The museum announced on the 15th that its official website recently received the "Web Accessibility Quality Certification Mark (WA Mark)."
This certification is a nationally accredited quality mark awarded by the Korea Web Accessibility Certification Evaluation Institute, which is designated by the Ministry of Science and ICT. It is granted only to websites that meet relevant standards so that information-vulnerable groups, such as people with disabilities and the elderly, can use the site without inconvenience, in accordance with the "Intelligent Informatization Basic Act" and the "Anti-Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities Act."
The National Gwangju Science Museum has maintained this certification for eight consecutive years since 2017. This year, the museum received an excellent evaluation by achieving an average compliance rate of 100% across 33 criteria covering various areas, including visual, auditory, cognitive, and mobility accessibility.
Jang Hyojeong, a researcher at the Public Relations and Cooperation Office who prepared for this certification, stated, "This achievement is the result of our continuous efforts to ensure that everyone can enjoy scientific culture without discrimination," and added, "We will continue to work toward creating an inclusive digital environment in the future."
The Web Accessibility Certification Mark can be found at the bottom of the museum's website. The museum plans to continue improving its services so that more citizens can easily and conveniently access scientific and cultural information.
