Wearing Hanbok and Experiencing Traditional Rites for Coming-of-Age Day
Pusan National University (President Choi Jaewon) will hold the "27th Hyowon Coming-of-Age Ceremony 2025" on May 19 at 4:30 p.m. on the outdoor lawn of the university museum, with the aim of reflecting on the modern significance of traditional coming-of-age ceremonies and helping students grow into responsible members of society.
The "Hyowon Coming-of-Age Ceremony" is a representative traditional cultural event at Pusan National University, held annually since 1999 to commemorate Coming-of-Age Day (the third Monday of May). This year marks the 27th ceremony. Seventy-two freshmen born in 2006 who are turning 19 years old will participate, experiencing the traditional coming-of-age ritual firsthand.
Participants will wear Hanbok and declare their adulthood through traditional rites, taking their first steps as responsible members of society. Not only the new adults but also their families, university members, and local residents are expected to attend and share in the celebration.
