Bonghwa Jukssunideul Holds Performance Sharing Event Reflecting on Five Years of Warm Steps
A Model Social Cooperative Practicing Nutritious Porridge Sharing for Local Seniors
Providing Emotional Care Alongside Community Support
The social cooperative 'Bonghwa Jukssunideul' in Bonghwa County, Gyeongbuk, held a performance sharing event on May 13 on the stage of the local agricultural specialty exhibition and sales hall in Bonghwa New Market, reflecting on its activities over the past five years.
About 100 people, including members and volunteers, attended the event to commemorate the tradition of sharing that has continued since the cooperative's founding and to exchange opinions on the future direction of its operations.
'Bonghwa Jukssunideul' officially launched its activities in May 2021 with an inaugural ceremony at the Beopjeon-myeon Han Yakwoo Regional Center.
Led by the presidents of each village Saemaul Women's Association and volunteers, the group has consistently delivered nutritious rice porridge to elderly people living alone and vulnerable groups in the community as part of its volunteer work.
In November last year, the group transitioned into a social cooperative, strengthening its organizational structure and expanding its scope of activities. Currently, about 70 members deliver homemade porridge three to four times a month, going beyond simply providing food to also check in on recipients and offer companionship, thereby providing emotional care.
During the sharing event, participants looked back on moments of volunteer work through photo and video exhibitions, and discussed various ways to enhance the quality and sustainability of future activities.
Yoo Youngran, representative of Bonghwa Jukssunideul, said, "We have continued these activities with the hope of delivering not only health but also emotional comfort to the elderly," adding, "We will continue to extend our warm support to the local community in the future."
'Bonghwa Jukssunideul' is contributing to the recovery of the community through locally focused care activities and is expected to play an important role in addressing welfare blind spots in the future.
