Pohang City is steadily laying the groundwork for international cooperation to become a leading carbon-neutral city.
In preparation for the upcoming "14th United Nations Climate Change Global Innovation Hub (UGIH) Systemic Workshop (S.I.W.)" scheduled for July, the city held a preliminary workshop with domestic and international experts at the Lahan Hotel on the 14th, focusing on Pohang's climate response strategies and key tasks.

Approximately 50 participants, including Massamba Thioye, Head of UN UGIH, as well as representatives from academia, businesses, related organizations, and the city government, engaged in meaningful discussions.
During the workshop, Pohang City explained the severity of the climate crisis facing cities and the need for region-specific transitions. The city also shared its carbon neutrality strategies and tasks, focusing on four sectors: steel, secondary batteries, transportation, and buildings.
The participants specifically identified issues and improvement measures in each sector, including industrial structure, infrastructure, systems, technology, and costs, and sought practical directions for cooperation.
Based on these discussions, the city plans to continue international dialogue at the 14th UN UGIH Systemic Innovation Workshop, to be held for the first time in Korea in Pohang from July 3 to 4.
At this event, Pohang aims to work with a diverse range of domestic and international stakeholders to develop concrete climate solutions and establish cooperative models to position Pohang as a global climate leader city.
Additionally, Pohang City plans to attend the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, to be held in Brazil in November, where it will present the region's climate response model and achievements to the international community.
The UN UGIH Systemic Innovation Workshop (S.I.W.) serves as a platform for identifying city-specific climate challenges and spreading sustainable climate solutions through public-private-academic cooperation. Officially launched at COP26 in 2021, it has been actively operated ever since.
